Dr. Michael Mackonochie

Dr. Mackonochie has had a passion for animals since he was young. From owning pets, to bringing home injured animals to help them recuperate, no matter big or small, he always felt the urge to help any furry friend in need. Dr. Mackonochie was introduced to Dr. Lynch at his grandkids’ birthday party. While there, they discussed their shared love of animals. Dr. Mackonochie accepted a shadowing position under Dr. Lynch in pursuit of his dream of Veterinary Medicine in 2013.

Starting in the kennels, he worked his way up the ladder, eventually helping out in exam rooms. Studying at Quinnipiac University, he gained knowledge from both Drs Lynch and Hoffman while home on breaks. He graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and was then accepted to the Royal Veterinary College in London, where he received his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine in 2022, as well as being inducted into the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Mackonochie joined the MHFA team as a veterinarian that same year and has worked alongside Dr. Lynch and Dr. Hoffman ever since.

When Dr. Mackonochie isn’t working, he’s either on the golf course, socializing with friends, gaming, or keeping fit at the gym. If you see him out and you don’t get a friendly smile, fear not– It’s not that he doesn’t like you; you’re probably looking at this identical twin James! Although similar in looks and personality, their only difference is their career path- James deals with finance.

Dr. Mackonochie is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, and the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association. He looks forward to finding his niche in veterinary medicine and hopes to become a specialist. His goal is to one day own a practice of his own.

“I look forward the most to meeting all the wonderful clients and building everlasting bonds with their animals. Seeing them grow from puppies and kittens to adults while helping maintain their health is its own reward in itself. Nothing brings me more joy than lending a helping hand to our furry friends and seeing both the owner and their loved ones leave happy and healthy!”
